Vegetable Manchurian with Gravy Recipe - Vegetable Manchurian with gravy is a popular Indo-Chinese recipe which most of us do like along with a bowl of fried rice or noodles. Indo Chinese cuisine is the adaptation of Chinese seasoning and cooking techniques as per Indian tastes. Indo-Chinese foods are flavored with spices, hot chili, ginger and garlic. This dish is actually not very spicy but can be altered to suit your taste. For those whom haven't tried making veg manchurian at home think it's very difficult and complicated but this ever popular Indo-Chinese dish is really easy to make. It is an exotic dish made of mixed vegetable dumplings deep fried and cooked in a tangy sauce. This veg manchurian gravy is delicious, spicy and soupy manchurian prepared with vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, carrot and beans without using MSG. If you prefer add little of MSG or you can skip it too it's fine either way. Vegetable Manchurian goes well as a side dish with veg fried rice, plain rice and even with naan, garlic naan or Indian chapati.





Ingredients:

For The Vegetable Balls:
  • Cabbage (finely chopped) - 1 cup
  • Cauliflower (grated) - 1 cup
  • Carrot (grated) - 1 cup
  • Beans (chopped) - 4 tbsp
  • Spring onions - 2 tbsp
  • Corn flour - 2 tbsp
  • Refined flour (maida) - 5
  • Garlic (finally chopped) - 1 tbsp
  • Ginger (chopped) - 1 tbsp
  • Black pepper powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - for deep-frying

For The Sauce:
  • Onions (chopped) - 1/2 cup
  • Garlic (finely chopped) - 1 tbsp
  • Green chillies (finally chopped) - 4
  • Ginger (finally chopped) - 2 tsp
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Soy Sauce - 1 tbsp
  • Red chilli sauce - 1/2 tsp
  • Corn flour - 1 tbsp mixed with 1 cup of water
  • Sugar - 1 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander leaves (chopped) - 1 tbsp for garnish


Method:

For the vegetable balls:

1. In a bowl Combine the cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, beans, spring onions, corn flour, refined flour, garlic, ginger, salt and pepper and mix well use your fingers to crushing the mixture slightly so that the vegetables release some moisture and a dough is formed.

2. Heat sufficient oil in a deep pan.

3. Make small balls from the mixture and deep fry the few balls at a time in hot oil until golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper and keep aside.


For the sauce:

1. Heat the oil in a frying pan on a high flame. Add the garlic, green chillies and ginger and stir fry over a high flame for a few seconds.

2. Add onions and fry till lightly brown.

3. Add black pepper powder, soya sauce, red chilli sauce, sugar, salt, water and simmer for a few minutes.

4. Add corn flour paste and cook it for a couple of minutes or until the sauce starts to thicken, stirring continuously

5. Add the fried balls, mix well and simmer for a minute.

6. Turn off the heat. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with veg fried rice, plain rice, naan or roti.
