Aloo tikkis are usually stuffed with a spiced filling of peas or paneer. But in this recipe does not have any stuffing. Aloo tikki is also known as aloo pattice. Aloo pattice is usually not stuffed with any filling. There are so many chaat recipes which uses aloo tikki as base. You can use aloo tikki for aloo tikki chole, aloo tikki Dahi chaat or ragda (white peas curry) pattice serve hot aloo tikki with tamarind chutney, hari chutney or ketchup. Aloo tikki is a good evening tea time snack. Here are the simple steps which you can follow and make wonderful aloo tikki in your own kitchen.

Makes: 10 to 12 tikkis
Serves: 2-3
Ingredients:
- Potato (boiled, peeled and mashed) - 3 medium
- Bread crumbs- 2 tbsp OR Bread slice- 2
- Green Chilies (finely chopped) - 2
- Turmeric powder – a pinch
- Garam Masala - 1/4 tsp
- Chat masala- 1/2 tsp
- Onion (finely chopped) - 1/4 cup
- Dry mango powder – 1 tsp
- Coriander leaves/Cilantro (finely chopped) - 3 tbsp
- Salt- to taste
- Oil - for cooking
Method:
1. Boil potatoes in a pressure cooker and turn the heat on medium and let it cook for 2-3 whistles. Once the potatoes are cooked, peel and mash them.
2. Add bread crumb into the potatoes and knead to make the dough. (NOTE: If you are using bread slice then take a slice of bread and remove the edges.Tear down the bread slice in to boiled potato and mash it.)
3. Add finely chopped green chilies, chopped cilantro, garam masala powder, chaat masala, dry mango powder, turmeric powder, chopped onion and salt, mix it well.
4. Divide the mixture into 12 equal portions. Take one part of the potato dough, flatten over the oiled palm. Shape each portion into a round, flat tikki.
5. Heat a non-stick tawa (griddle) on a medium flame and grease it with oil. Gently place the tikkies on the skillet, keep some distance between tikkis.
6. When one side of tikki becomes golden and crisp, turn over and fry the other side of tikki.
7. Turn the tikkies 3-4 times as needed and also press with spatula. Cook using little oil, till both sides are golden brown in color.
8. Serve hot with Hari chutney (Cilantro Chutney), Tamarind chutney, Yogurt or Chole.
